In India, Hallmarking is compulsory for the certified jewelers to sale or manufacture the jewelry or artifacts. The BIS certified jewelry mark is compulsory from any of the Assay and Hallmarking centres, which is registered under Bureau of Indian Standard. The hallmark is must for consisting purity and fineness in case of Fine Gold 999, for Standard Gold 995 & gold alloy for jewellery & artefacts 916, 750 & 585.
